Course Description:Â
This course provides an overview of Kaiser’s ACE study as part of an introduction in understanding the impact that early childhood toxic stress has on lifelong health outcomes. Participants will be taught through lecture and group activities best practices in responding to trauma and the Stages of Trauma Recovery. Opportunity for connecting the concepts to participants own experiences will be guided and interventions for client self-care will be identified and practiced. This course is required for all Community Solutions employees.
By the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to identify and practice:
- Greater awareness of the impact of early childhood trauma on brain development
- 3 ways to enhance confidence, responsiveness and awareness for supporting survivors of trauma, abuse and addiction in your role.
- Acquired knowledge and skills in how self-care and one’s own lens impacts trauma treatment and the importance of supervision and a trauma sensitive work environment.
About the Trainer:Â
Nicole Irigoyen (she/her) is a well-seasoned facilitator and educator with a deep commitment to human rights, equity, and public health. Currently serving as the Director of Workforce Development at Community Solutions, she plays a pivotal role in developing and providing training and capacity-building for health practitioners and leaders. She holds dual master’s degrees in Public Administration and Education Management from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. Nicole brings over ten years of experience in health and human services, specializing in trauma-informed management, youth programming and educational innovation, gender equity and reproductive justice, and supporting survivors of trauma and abuse. Throughout her career, Nicole has worked to center underserved communities and uplift human rights and dignity—a passion that ignited during her undergraduate studies at Cal State Monterey Bay. With her passion, dedication, and expertise in education and management, Nicole continues to champion transformative change within the communities she serves.
