Course Description: 

This course provides an overview of Kaiser’s ACE study as part of an introduction in understanding the impact that early childhood toxic stress has on lifelong health outcomes. Participants will be taught through lecture and group activities best practices in responding to trauma and the Stages of Trauma Recovery. Opportunity for connecting the concepts to participants own experiences will be guided and interventions for client self-care will be identified and practiced.  This course is required for all Community Solutions employees.

By the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to identify and practice:

  • Greater awareness of the impact of early childhood trauma on brain development
  • 3 ways to enhance confidence, responsiveness and awareness for supporting survivors of trauma, abuse and addiction in your role.
  • Acquired knowledge and skills in how self-care and one’s own lens impacts trauma treatment and the importance of supervision and a trauma sensitive work environment.

About the Trainer: 

Tyler Washington is a San Francisco Bay Area native, who has always had a love for learning and communication. After graduating high school, Tyler headed to Northern California to study Communication at Humboldt State University. Through her education, Tyler was exposed to a variety of communication styles and practices from a social justice lens that allowed her to combine her passion for human communication and meaning making with social advocacy and progress. In 2019, Tyler completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and relocated back to the Bay Area in hopes of more opportunities to put her degree into practice. After several months of volunteering with the CS Learning team at Community Solutions, Tyler accepted a role as Learning and Development Supervisor in August 2022. She now works primarily to support internal and external development through intern program management, heading marketing and communication initiatives, and facilitating trainings.

This course is approved for  3 continuing education hours for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs and/or LEPs as required by the California B.B.S. under CEPA Provider #129412, and for RADT, CADC, and LAADC by CCAPP-EI CADAAC Provider # 7213401223.

Community Solutions is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs and/or LEPs. Community Solutions maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content.
