Course Description: 

Working in the mental health field can be challenging, especially when it comes to navigating relationships and boundaries with clients. This course is aimed at helping case managers and peer partners better understand the legal and ethical elements of HIPAA, gift-giving, self-discloser and managing professional relationships.

By the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to identify and practice:

  • Understanding and applying three major components to HIPAA
  • Responding to gifts in a culturally-appropriate way
  • Recognizing the difference between appropriate and unwanted self-disclosure

About the Trainer: 

Christine Silver is a dedicated mental health professional. She graduated from UC Berkeley with a Bachelors in Psychology and is in the progress of obtaining her MSW from San Jose State. She has extensive experience working in outpatient adult behavioral health, including populations struggling with dual substance use and serious mental illness, homelessness, justice-involved clients, and whole-person care. Christine has experience as a case manager, supervisor, program manager, and now the Director of Adult Behavioral Health Outpatient and Housing Services for Community Solutions. In addition to this, she has worked in crisis residential settings with teenagers and youth experiencing suicidal ideation and psychosis. She provides trainings on substance use, dual diagnosis interventions, and boundaries and ethics for case managers and peer partners.

CEUs: This course is approved for  4 hours of continuing education units for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs and/or LEPs as required by the California B.B.S. under CEPA Provider #129412, and for RADT, CADC, and LAADC by CCAPP-EI CADAAC Provider # 7213401223.
