Course Description: 

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a unique and complex collection of symptoms that can impact a child’s development and relationships. Together we’ll explore the signs and symptoms of ASD including sensory differences, how one is diagnosed with ASD, interventions to support individuals with ASD, and how we, as professionals, can support families of children with ASD.

By the conclusion of this workshop, participants will:

  • The signs that may indicate that a child might present with autism spectrum (ASD)
  • The definition and diagnosis of ASD
  • Our understanding of sensory needs in children with ASD and their impact on relationships
  • Build our knowledge regarding interventions, tools, and strategies for children with ASD
  • Improve our understanding of how to support collaboration between parents and the professionals who serve these children

About the Trainer: 

Margarita Gomez, MS, OTR/L, ATMHP, RPF-I is the Program Manager of Hope Services’ Homestart Program, which provides developmental intervention to children with special needs and their families, and the owner of Kids Come First, where she provides training, consultation, and private occupational therapy services to families and organizations throughout the Bay Area. She is a member of Santa Clara County’s Brazelton Touchpoints Training Team, is a California Endorsed Advanced Transdisciplinary Infant-Family Early Childhood Mental Health Practitioner, and a Reflective Practice Facilitator. Throughout her 23-year career, she has had the privilege of working in home-based early intervention programs, public medical therapy units, schools, assessment clinics, and specializes in supporting the development of young children’s global, social-emotional, and sensory processing skills and fostering their families’ abilities to understand and facilitate their unique developmental experiences.

CE’s: This course is approved for  2 continuing education hours for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs and/or LEPs as required by the California B.B.S. under CEPA Provider #129412

Community Solutions is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs and/or LEPs. Community Solutions maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content.
